I would personally consider this art, but since it's a prototype of something that might possibly be a tangible piece of technology, I put it in this forum.
As Chris and I were thinking up of ideas for a next-generation, infinitely-moddable computer, we thought up of something rather simple; A large, Plexiglas box.
Here's what I have so far:

Thumb and link will be updated as I work.

You need to find a slot loading cd drive.

I have an idea that involves one.
What about having a large wodden box to hold the psu, water cooling setup, and etc then on top mounting the board and such under the plexi galss?

Here's a crude drawing of what I think you're saying:

If this is what you mean, it sounds like a very good idea. I think it would be a great approach to making a quiet system, as well. You could put a layer of self-adhesive acoustic foam on the inside walls of the wooden part and make it virtually sound proof (and dust proof).

EDIT: It WOOD be a fire hazard. So we would have to paste on a layer of that liquid electrical tape (or something fire-retardant) on the inside of the wooden box and in between the motherboard and the wood.
