Q: Is there any way to get rid of Facebook Ads for good!?
A: In my latest web experiment, I answer that question:

I have done most everything CSS before, so how hard could writing a user-defined browser script be? It turned out to be pretty easy. In fact all I had to do was create 1 file and put it in a specific location!

Instructions:

Required Browser: Mozilla Firefox
Required OS: Windows or Mac
Required Settings: Turn Show Hidden Files On

Download this CSS file: userContent.css (http://www.wabuf.com/Wabuf/css/userContent.css)
Navigate to your "chrome" folder:
Windows Vista & 7

Your named filder (in my case "Matthew") (Contains My Music, My Pictures, etc...)
AppData
Roaming
Mozilla
Firefox
Profiles
(A folder with a random name. Click it.)
chrome

Windows XP

Your named filder (in my case "Matthew") (Contains My Music, My Pictures, etc...)
Application Data
Mozilla
Firefox
Profiles
(A folder with a random name. Click it.)
chrome

Macintosh
Not sure on specifics, but the first folder will be called "Application Support".
In the "chrome" folder, paste the userContent.css file.
Restart Firefox and go to Facebook.
Notice that there are no sponsors, advertisements or anything under both your Home and Profile tabs!

The next little tweak I am working on involves the actual, visual styling of Facebook. Almost like a theme for the website, specifically.

Hmm wouldn't adblock do the same thing?

No. The Adblock add-on for Firefox puts a stupid icon in the advertisement's place which is easily more annoying than the original ads, themselves. Adblock also removes a lot of images on pages which are not advertisements, which defeats the purpose. Adblock cannot tell the difference between Facebook's sponsors and advertisements.
