This is for the Gainax fans who thought FLCL was too short, While clearly not the same insane yet ingenious mash up random and well thought out ideas that is the furi kuri OVA, This TV series still manages to capture its essence.
While Fooly Cooly was created to mark the beginning of a new era. (The Year 2000) Abenobashi was made to mark the end of one. The post war reconstructive period in japan is seen as the "Good old days" by many japanese old timers, And with the demolition of what was built during that era, marked the end of it.
Like the year 00 in FLCL though this is a simple under tone In the series which, like FLCL is a coming of age story. In my Opinion MSAA has a more "Complete" story-line than fooly cooly so I have always thought of it as the better work, Though they both have there own merits.
Abenobashi was made to appease the rapid FLCL fans, who didn't actually buy the FLCL dvd's thus causing the series to fail, it amazes me how such a popular series(at least in america, it bombed in japan) can have the most horrid dvd sales, yet remain popular so long after it aired on US TV.
