The year is Universal Century 0001 Due to gross overpopulation the human race has begun immigrating to space, In large cylinder Colonies. Upon the first colonies completion during A ceremony It is destroyed in a terrorist bombing...
UC:0096 Following Chars rebellion A new Neo-Zeon force has emerged, The sleeved Lead by the mysterious Full Frontal. They are after the mysterious Laplaces box, Said to contain a secret capable of changing the very world!
The first episode of the new Gundam OVA opens appropriately epically with a speech interrupted by mass death. For those not familiar with Gundam, Or even the Universal Century, Gundam Unicorn may be a bit hard to follow they don't bother explaining some of the less obvious technology like funnels because its been explained before. We do however get a very generous explanation of the newtypes, that will likely leave you thinking "I never thought of it that way."
The Mecha Designs in Unicorn are great even if the Gundam Unicorn itself feels a bit plain at first. The battles are simply amazing with beams lighting up the sky and explosions incineration poor civilians, The detail and fluidity of the battles is simply amazing, The best of the franchise for sure!

The Agile ReZEL
The character designs feel old school in a good way, the last Gundam series to used character designs that called back to the seventies was F91, back in 90, but I feel this series pulls them off better.
The episode is an hour long and feels like a feature film all the way though thanks to the big budget animation, amazing art design and spectacular sound design featuring one of the best Gundam scores I have ever heard.
Now this was released on Blu-ray for a suggested price of 49.99, That is incredibly steep I know but Amazon is selling it at 30 percent off, and next month when this gets in stores(Amazon got it exclusively for a month) I doubt any stores will sell it for that much.
Is it worth it for 1 episode? I believe as an anime fan it was worth the 35.00 I payed for it, is it worth 40-50? As a gundam fan I would say yes, If I had no other options I would of payed 40-50 dollars for it.
The Lowdown
+Good Animation
+Good Story
+Good Score
+Good Dub
-Steep MSRP but for now you can get it at amazon for 34.99
